It is the most popular opinion that Capoeira originated in Brazil however the movements and rhythms of the sport also came from the roots of traditional African tribal dances and ceremony rituals.
The people of Africa were torn out of their homes and vilages and taken away from family and friends to work as slaves on the farms in Brazil. Sold to farm owners and thrown together with other people they didnt know the slaves found it on themselves to come up with some cunning ways to escape and get back some of their freedom.
This is how capoeira was created.

In the early 1900's a man named Meste Bimba was the first person to ever set up an academy of Capoeira in Salvador Bahia, capoeira was still illegal at the time so this was a huge risk for him. He created a system of training that involved learning eight sequences that involved everything you needed to play Capoeira in that time. He created a system of graduation which is now widley used in the world of Capoeira today.
He called this new system "Capoeira Regional".

Now days Capoeira has developed into something new with the birth of Capoeira Contemporanea, a modern style of Capoeira that involves fundamentals of both Capoeira Regional and also the more traditional style of Capoeira, Capoeira Angola or Capoeiragem.

To evolve is natural and Capoeira also continues to evolve.
When trainng Capoeira you can expect to workout and improve yourself in the following ways.

Fitness

Strength

Flexibility

Coordination

Balance

Rhythm

Endurance

Weight Loss

Awareness

Culture

Confidance

In an average training session you will go through a warm up section and fitness workout. You will work on stretching for flexibility and also strength exercises during a session and in between all this you will be guided through the techniques of Capoeira, slowely for the beginners so you can understand the fundamentals behind each technique and for the more advanced students it becomes more involved and intense as you continue to grow your skills along with growing your strength and fitness.

Many people who like Capoeira are often shy to start training especially after seeing a display performed by the instructors and high levels. The mentality is that it is too difficult.

 Don't be put off!

Capoeira like any sports starts at the begining, where you learn the movements step by step and as you get more involved you build your game.
